All around Central Ohio, there are special shops (run by even more special people) that simply take my breath away. Places that ooze creativity, style, and charm. In my mind, I keep a mental map of the Central Ohio area, with little map tacks on the various stores I love to visit when I'm nearby, or when I can carve out a few hours for a nice drive and a shopportunity. I recently added a special new destination to my mental map - Georgie Emerson Vintage Mercantile, located at 360 W. Waterloo Street, Canal Winchester, Ohio.
Wow, this place is amazing. The style statement at Georgie Emerson is that pale, rustic vintage look, with pieces that would look great in every home from a farmhouse to a French cottage. And they don't just offer home decor - there are new and vintage clothing finds, sparkling jewelry, and even local art.
Georgie Emerson's offers a dedicated room with unique and one-of-a-kind clothes, wraps, shoes, and purses, and I found their prices to be very affordable. The day I visited, I chose two new cozy scarves for fall, as well as several pairs of affordably priced and very sparkly new pairs of earrings which were priced between $3-5 for studs to about $18 for glitzy dangles. And of course, they also have some gorgeous antiques and furnishings that go up into the higher price points. But I love it when a store includes something special for people of all budgets, big or small.
And, did I mention the ladies? The day we visited, I had the opportunity to meet the owner and her wonderful staff - all kind, helpful, friendly, and elegant! Plus there's a sweet little shop dog that snuggles into a tiny dog bed right on the counter. (He's a handsome little guy and clearly loves his role as the star of the show.)
This was our first visit to Canal Winchester, and the friendly staff gave us some pointers on where to grab lunch and how to get downtown, since Georgie Emerson Vintage is situated a mile or two outside of the actual village. We took their advice and checked out Harvest Moon Craft Kitchen which was outstanding and offered a number of unique vegetarian options. Their salads were so fresh and interesting! If you go, I suggest the Farmer's Salad - mixed greens, brussels sprouts, beets, squash, almonds, egg, onion, turkey bacon, feta cheese, and house vinaigrette. I added grilled tofu, which was cooked perfectly. Their Gouda Spread starter is amazing, too.
If you're looking for a great place in the Columbus area to spend a few hours shopping, dining, and digging the hometown feel, go check out Canal Winchester and be sure to include a visit to Georgie Emerson Vintage Mercantile!
